Unit 8: Negative Rebuttal and Final Arguments
In this unit, you will speak again as the Negative Team for Motion 2. Your task is to respond to the Affirmative Team's reply, defend the negative position, and close the debate with a final counter-argument.
This unit completes Motion 2 as the fourth speaking turn in the debate sequence using student login, 3D avatars, recording, transcript, and formative feedback.

Debate Motion
Your role: Negative Team. You respond to the Affirmative Team's reply, defend the negative position, and close Motion 2 with a strong final counter-argument.

You are the second speaker for the Negative Team in Motion 2. Your task is to answer the Affirmative Team's reply, defend the need for balanced tourism development, and close the negative side of the debate.
Negative Rebuttal and Final Argument Structure
Use this structure to respond politely and close your side strongly:
- Acknowledge: The Affirmative Team argues that local Malay culture should remain the main tourism identity.
- Rebuttal: However, our team still disagrees because tourism development should balance culture with modern entertainment, facilities, and visitor needs.
- Defense: A balanced strategy can protect Malay culture while also making Kepulauan Riau more competitive and attractive to diverse visitors.
- Evidence or example: For example, cultural festivals can be combined with waterfront spaces, interactive museums, family attractions, digital promotion, and modern tourism facilities.
- Closing: Therefore, local Malay culture should be strongly included, but tourism development should not prioritise it over every modern entertainment attraction.
